143 - Contributory Parent Visa

The Subclass 143 Contributory Parent Visa is a permanent visa for parents of Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens. It allows you to move to Australia and join your child permanently.

It's called a 'Contributory' visa because a significant second instalment fee ($43,600 per applicant) is payable before the visa is granted. This contribution helps offset the cost of public services such as healthcare, that permanent residents are entitled to access. Processing typically takes 3.5 to 4.5 years.

Your child must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen who has lived in Australia for at least 2 years

Pass the Balance of Family Test: at least half of your children live in Australia as citizens or PRs, OR more of your children live in Australia than in any other single country

Step-children, adopted children, and children of both parents are all counted in the balance of family test

Be sponsored by an eligible child or their partner

Meet health and character requirements

BENEFITS

Stay in Australia indefinitely

Work and study in Australia

Enrol in Medicare; Australia's public healthcare scheme

Sponsor eligible relatives for permanent residence

Travel to and from Australia for 5 years from the date of grant
