143 - Contributory Parent Visa
The Subclass 143 Contributory Parent Visa is a permanent visa for parents of Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens. It allows you to move to Australia and join your child permanently.
It's called a 'Contributory' visa because a significant second instalment fee ($43,600 per applicant) is payable before the visa is granted. This contribution helps offset the cost of public services such as healthcare, that permanent residents are entitled to access. Processing typically takes 3.5 to 4.5 years.

Step-children, adopted children, and children of both parents are all counted in the balance of family test
Be sponsored by an eligible child or their partner
Meet health and character requirements
BENEFITS
Stay in Australia indefinitely
Work and study in Australia
Enrol in Medicare; Australia's public healthcare scheme

Both the temporary 820 and permanent 801 are applied for at the same time. Most applicants are granted the 820 first, then transition to the 801 after 2 years; or sooner if the relationship is 3 or more years old, or if a dependent child is involved.
