ACT Announces Major Update: Nearly 1/3 Occupations Removed from Skilled List!
ATTENTION all 491/190 visa applicants! The ACT Government has just released an updated Occupation List, with significant cuts – from 152 Unit Groups down to 105. Here’s what you need to know:
Key Changes to the ACT Occupation List
~50 occupations removed – the first state/territory to make such a significant cut this program year.
September round will use the old list, but the next round will use the new list.
Impacted? If your occupation is removed, consider employer sponsorship or other state nominations as your Plan B.
Invitation Updates
The next invitation round will be announced after the ACT receives its full allocation of nomination places.
491 nominations will be prioritised over 190:
If you submit both a 491 and 190 Matrix, only the 491 will be considered if you are invited.
Choose your visa subclass carefully!
Changes to Doctorate Streamlined Pathway
Previous: Invitations issued every 7 working days.
Now: Aligned with general invitation rounds, but still prioritised.
PhD applicants still do not need Matrix points, and their occupation does not need to be on the ACT list.
Clarification for 457/482 Visa Holders
Must have worked for the sponsoring employer for at least 6 months, consistent with visa holding period.
Nominated occupation does not need to be on the ACT list.

💡 Recommendations if Impacted
If your occupation is removed, consider:
Employer sponsorship (e.g., 482, 186)
Other state nominations (NSW, VIC, SA, etc.)
Boosting Matrix points (English, work experience, ACT job offer)
