Entrepreneurial Story: Compass IoT's Innovation in Traffic Management

Compass IoT received a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) grant to develop their Integrated Transport Management System, aiding traffic engineers, consultants, councils, and state governments in understanding traffic flow. They combine data feeds from connected vehicles with journey planning data to provide real-time traffic visualization and powerful insights on transport demand, mobility, and usage. An independent traffic assessment confirmed Compass’ bus and car speed counts are accurate within a 99-100% range!

Compass has fully leveraged the entrepreneurial education from their alma maters, being alumni of UTS Startups and both the University of Sydney’s INCUBATE and Genesis programs.

When COVID struck, on-ground traffic surveys became unviable. With no cars on the road, traditional methods couldn’t monitor or report traffic. Transport for NSW, Canberra Council, NK Traffic, and other government agencies turned to Compass to continue operations. Compass utilized data from the last usable period before COVID in November to continue transport planning and management.

Compass looked to the past to provide insights into the present and, as they continue to grow, will shape the future of transport systems.
