Tasmania Releases 2,050 Skilled Migration Nomination Places for 2026-27

Tasmania has confirmed its skilled migration allocation for the 2026-27 program year: 2,050 nomination places in total, made up of 1,250 places for subclass 190 (Skilled Nominated) and 800 places for subclass 491 (Skilled Work Regional). Registrations of Interest (ROI) are set to reopen in the coming weeks, though an exact date hasn't been announced yet.

The breakdown

Subclass 190, Skilled Nominated visa: 1,250 places. Leads to permanent residency, with a commitment to live and work in Tasmania.
Subclass 491, Skilled Work Regional visa: 800 places. A provisional regional visa that can lead to permanent residency after meeting work and residency requirements.

This is a larger allocation than last year, so it's worth weighing up which pathway suits your occupation and goals before ROIs reopen.

If you already have an application in progress

No action needed. Migration Tasmania will keep assessing your application against the rules that applied when you lodged it, and you'll be nominated through SkillSelect if approved.

Switching from subclass 491 to subclass 190

A 491 application that's still awaiting a decision won't automatically be considered for subclass 190. To be assessed for 190 instead, you'll need to withdraw the current application and submit a new ROI once the 2026-27 program opens. Any new 190 invitation will depend on demand and how many pro-rata places remain at the time, so timing this well matters.
