October 1, 2024, Australia will open its Work and Holiday (Subclass 462) visa applications for Indian and Vietnamese citizens through a lottery system:
1. What is the Work and Holiday Visa (Subclass 462)?
Purpose: Allows young people from certain countries to live, work, and travel in Australia for up to 12 months.
Eligibility Age: 18 to 30 years old.
Quota for 2024: 1,500 spots each for Indian and Vietnamese citizens.
New Application Process: This year, applications will be managed through a lottery system.
2. Eligibility Criteria for Indian and Vietnamese Citizens
To apply, you must meet these requirements:
Education: Have a university degree or completed at least two years of post-secondary education.
English Proficiency: Provide proof of English, like an IELTS score of 4.5 or equivalent (e.g., TOEFL, PTE).
Funds: Show proof of AUD 5,000 to support yourself in Australia, plus a return ticket or enough money to buy one.
Health and Character: Meet Australia’s health and character standards (e.g., provide police clearance, may need a health exam).
3. How the Lottery System Works
Step 1: Expression of Interest (EOI):
Opens on October 1, 2024.
Submit your details online through Australia’s ImmiAccount system (no fee at this stage).
Step 2: Lottery Draw:
After the EOI period closes, a random lottery will pick applicants.
If selected, you’ll be notified via email.
Step 3: Formal Visa Application:
Pay the AUD 495 fee and submit the required documents passport, education certificates, English test results, proof of funds, and health/character checks.
4. What Happens After the Lottery?
If you’re selected and approved for the visa:
Work: You can work in Australia, but no more than 6 months with the same employer.
Study: You can study for up to 4 months.
Travel: Enter and leave Australia multiple times during your visa’s 12-month validity.
Visa Extension: If you work in certain jobs in regional Australia for 3 months, you can apply for a second visa (for another 12 months).
